Ford has reclaimed the coveted title of the UK's best-selling car brand for the year 2023, as revealed by the recently released data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Notably, it's the Ford Puma that now reigns supreme in the car registrations chart, taking over from the Fiesta, which ceased production last year. Impressively, just shy of 50,000 Pumas were registered across the UK in the past 12 months.

2023 Nissan Qashqai

Securing the second position is the British-built Nissan Qashqai, with 43,319 registrations, followed closely by the Vauxhall Corsa, the leading model in 2021, with 40,916 registrations.

The top five is completed by the Kia Sportage and the Tesla Model Y, with SUVs dominating the list, selling 36,135 and 35,899 models respectively.

It's noteworthy that SMMT categorizes the Puma as a supermini, maintaining the supermini category's status as Britain's preferred car type.

2023 KIA Sportage

The Hyundai Tucson claims the sixth spot with sales figures totaling 34,469, closely followed by the Mini, which recorded 33,385 units sold. .

The Nissan Juke secures the eighth position with 31,745 units sold, introducing another crossover to the list.

Breaking the SUV trend, the traditional hatchback Audi A3 claims the ninth spot with 30,159 vehicles sold. Rounding off the top ten is the revamped Vauxhall Mokka, falling just short of thirty thousand units with 29,983 vehicles sold.

2023 Audi A3

Despite Ford experiencing a 13.6% jump in registrations in 2023, Volkswagen maintains its position as Britain's largest-selling car brand, with a total of 162,085 Volkswagens finding new homes last year, over 18,000 more than Ford. Audi secures the third spot overall, preceding BMW, Toyota, and Kia, which complete the top five.

The year 2023 witnessed a significant boost in new car registrations, totaling 1.9 million—an increase of 17.9% compared to 2022 and marking the best year since 2019.

This positive trend is attributed to the easing of pandemic-related challenges and supply shortages due to the component crisis.
