The Renault Zoe, a trailblazer in the small electric car segment, is set to bid farewell to the UK market after an impactful 11-year run. With its production scheduled to cease in March 2024, the Zoe leaves a significant legacy in the electric vehicle (EV) landscape.

Despite its status as the best-selling EV in France, Renault confirmed last year that the Zoe would not have a direct successor. This decision came even though the Zoe achieved remarkable sales figures, with over 30,000 units sold in the UK and more than 380,000 across Europe. Notably, it led the European EV sales charts in 2015 and 2016, with France alone accounting for over 100,000 sales..

The Zoe's final version will roll off the production line in France on March 30. This move paves the way for Renault's new electric offering, the Renault 5 electric hatchback, set to be unveiled in its production avatar at the Geneva motor show in February.

Throughout its production life, the Zoe remained a strong contender in its category, boasting a 52kWh battery and offering a range of 238 miles on a single charge. Interestingly, the upcoming Renault 5 is slated to feature a similar 52kWh battery but with a slightly increased range of 248 miles.

The Zoe's journey wasn't without its challenges, as it faced scrutiny in 2021 when it received a zero-star Euro NCAP safety rating, a significant drop from the five-star rating it had received for the original model in 2013.

Renault is now shifting its focus towards a diverse lineup that includes both hybrid and electric cars, indicating a strategy that embraces multiple pathways in the transition to cleaner transportation. While the Zoe was Renault’s sole dedicated EV for many years, the company has expanded its electric portfolio with the addition of the Mégane E-Tech hatchback and the imminent release of the new Scenic.

The Zoe's departure marks the end of an era for Renault but also signals the brand's ongoing commitment to innovation and evolution in the rapidly changing automotive industry.
