Porsche has unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the highly anticipated electric Macan, set to hit the UK market later this year.

The new Macan will offer two four-wheel-drive variants: the Macan 4, priced at £69,800 with 402bhp, and the Macan Turbo, priced at £95,000 with a powerful 630bhp.

Powered by dual permanent synchronous motors, supplied by Bosch and Porsche, the Macan 4 boasts 402bhp and 479lb ft, achieving 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the Macan Turbo, with an additional 228bhp, reaches 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds.

The electric Macan features a 95kWh battery, offering fast charging at up to 270kW on an 800V DC system, providing a 10-80% top-up in 21 minutes. Porsche claims WLTP ranges of 381 miles for the Macan 4 and 367 miles for the Macan Turbo.

Designed for class-leading dynamics, the Macan aims to deliver a sporty driving experience with a lower center of gravity and precise steering. The electric model will coexist with the petrol-powered version until the end of 2025 when the lineup transitions to exclusively electric.

Characterised by a sleeker silhouette and a retractable spoiler, the new Macan's roofline sets it apart from the first-generation model. With dimensions of 4784mm length, 1938mm width, and 1622mm height, it offers increased length and width compared to the existing petrol version. This makes it 103mm longer, 15mm wider and 2mm lower than the current model.

Inside, the Macan features a stylish layout resembling the current Cayenne, equipped with up to three digital displays, including a 12.6in curved instrument cluster and a 10.9in infotainment touchscreen. The Android Automotive operating system supports a 'Hey Porsche' voice assistant and a Porsche App Centre for app downloads.

The longer wheelbase enhances legroom, and the boot space stands at 540 liters, surpassing the petrol Macan at 500 litres, despite the coupé-style roof.

Suspension setups vary between the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, with the former using steel suspension and twin-valve dampers, and the latter featuring an advanced air suspension setup with Porsche Active Suspension Management.

Porsche emphasizes the enhanced performance of the new electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management system, reacting to traction loss within 10 milliseconds. Traction-enhancing features include Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.

Additional offerings on the Macan Turbo include an electronic rear differential lock and optional rear steering, providing a turning circle of 11.1 meters.

Looking ahead, Porsche plans to launch a significantly updated Taycan saloon and provide details on the electric Cayenne in 2025, coinciding with the launch of the electric Boxster and Cayman.
