Lexus has introduced an enhanced version of the LBX crossover at the Tokyo Auto Salon, revealing the Morizo RR Concept.

In this iteration, the LBX abandons its 134bhp 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain in favor of the G16E-GTS engine from the Toyota GR Yaris.

Paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, the turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivers 300bhp and 295lb ft of torque to all four wheels—an increase from the GR Yaris's 276bhp and 288lb ft.

The Morizo RR Concept features revised suspension, with a 10mm lower and 20mm wider stance, offering improved dynamics. The updated aerodynamics draw inspiration from air racing, providing a more aggressive appearance.

The car showcases yellow accents, paying homage to Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda, who uses yellow as a signature color for his racing alter ego 'Morizo.' The yellow accents are visible above the grille, on the brake calipers, and on the seatbelts.

While Lexus has not officially confirmed production plans for the Morizo RR Concept, the unexpected success of the GR Yaris, which has become a permanent fixture in Toyota's lineup, suggests a potential case for a performance-focused Lexus.

The fact that Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda, who actively participated in the Morizo RR's development, considers it his favorite Lexus further hints at the model's prospects of hitting showrooms.

The unveiling of the Morizo RR Concept follows comments from Toyota CEO Koji Sato, who previously led the Gazoo Racing (GR) motorsport division, suggesting the potential acceleration of sports car development within the company.

Sato indicated that with Akio Toyoda now serving as chairman and having more time, there could be a renewed focus on developing performance cars.
