Suzuki has officially unveiled the fourth-generation Swift, set to hit the UK market in the spring of 2024. This new iteration of the supermini comes with a series of notable updates and enhancements.

Externally, the Swift sports a fresh front grille, distinct L-shaped front lights, and redesigned front wings, lending it a more contemporary appearance. The rear of the car hasn't been left untouched either, featuring new lights and an updated bumper.

Under the hood, Suzuki plans to equip the new Swift with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine. While specific power outputs are yet to be disclosed, the predecessor model offered 82bhp. An intriguing addition for potential buyers is the availability of Suzuki's Allgrip Auto four-wheel drive system as an optional feature.

There's currently no information regarding the return of the more performance-oriented Swift Sport, which previously boasted 127bhp from a mild-hybrid 1.4-litre engine.

The interior of the new Swift sees a shift towards a more cost-effective design. It features analogue instruments complemented by a small digital screen in the driver's display. The climate control panel has been redesigned, moving away from chunky rotary dials and reducing the number of physical controls.

A key highlight inside is the new 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car also comes equipped with an array of safety features, including braking support, driver monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance.

Another noticeable change is the relocation of the rear door handles from the C-pillar to a more conventional position below the window.

Suzuki also hints at an overarching shift in the Swift's design philosophy, focusing on "experiential consumption" rather than "tangible consumption," suggesting a stronger emphasis on sustainability in its construction.

Despite the Swift's reputation for affordability, Suzuki confirms the inclusion of a "high-efficiency engine" that aims to balance driving performance with fuel efficiency. The model showcased features the existing five-speed manual gearbox, although an automatic variant is also anticipated.

Pricing for the new Swift is expected to start above £17,000, a slight increase from the current model, which is priced just under that mark. The official specification details for the UK market, along with other pertinent information, are set to be revealed early next year, with the market launch anticipated in early 2024.
