The 2024 Dacia Duster has been unveiled, marking a significant evolution for the popular SUV. Branded as the “best bargain on the market,” this new Duster represents a substantial technical leap forward, notably with the introduction of its first-ever electrified powertrains, as Dacia moves away from diesel options. According to engineering executive Julien Ferry, diesel is losing favor in Europe, prompting this strategic shift.

A key change in the new Duster is the abandonment of the B0 platform, which has been the foundation of all previous Dusters since 2009. Instead, it now adopts the CMF-B architecture, which is shared with vehicles like the Dacia Sandero, Renault Clio and Nissan Juke. This transition is expected to enhance the vehicle’s practicality, refinement, and dynamics while maintaining its compact dimensions. It also paves the way for the incorporation of hybrid and mild-hybrid systems alongside a conventional petrol option.

The lineup begins with a 99bhp four-cylinder engine, capable of running on both petrol and LPG, each with a 50-litre tank. When fully filled, the Duster can travel approximately 800 miles without refueling, as per official tests.

The mild-hybrid version features a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, a 48V electric motor, and a 0.9kWh battery. It’s the only variant equipped with a four-wheel-drive system, which operates similarly to the previous model. The 4x4 Lock mode is replaced with an Off-Road setting for improved torque distribution between axles, and the vehicle gains hill descent control.

A standout in the lineup is the Hybrid 140, combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors for 138bhp, similar to the system in the Dacia Jogger. Its 1.2kWh battery, charged through regenerative braking, is said to enable 80% electric-only city driving.

The interior follows a robust design language with a color-contrasting dashboard and a sturdy steering wheel with physical buttons. The vehicle also supports over-the-air software updates, saving trips to the dealership.
