South Korea witnessed the grand unveiling of the Genesis GV80 Coupé last week, marking the brand's maiden voyage into the coupé-SUV sector. The reveal comes hand in hand with the debut of its revamped conventional SUV counterpart, the GV80.

Genesis's unveiling of both the updated GV80 and the all-new GV80 Coupé underscores a significant moment in the automaker's trajectory. The company tags these luxury vehicles as "critical markers" on its road to global success.

Powertrain options for the GV80 SUV include a 299bhp 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine with 311lb ft of torque, and a more robust 374bhp 3.5-litre turbo petrol offering 390lb ft. The GV80 Coupé shares these choices and adds a premium tier: a 3.5-litre supercharged 48V hybrid delivering 409bhp and 405lb ft. This top-tier option boasts launch control, a dedicated Sports+ driving mode, and tunable brake dynamics.

Visually, the GV80 Coupé draws heavy inspiration from a concept revealed earlier this April. Distinctly sleeker than its SUV kin, the Coupé sports a stylishly curved rear, crowned by a spoiler perched above the tail lights. It incorporates a state-of-the-art active air flap system complemented by four cooling vents at the front. Potential buyers can opt for either 20-inch or 22-inch wheels. The interiors exude luxury with carbon patterns, custom-stitched upholstery, and intricate metal trims.

On the other hand, the GV80 SUV introduces a design facelift with a sleeker front grille, refined headlights, and a plethora of interior enhancements. The SUV's cockpit boasts a massive 27-inch infotainment console with navigation and video playback. Touch pads for climate control, a dual-tone steering wheel, and a lavish mix of wood, leather, and aluminium on the central console provide an opulent touch.

Both models are tech-laden, providing drivers with amenities such as a wireless phone charger, an expansive centre console cupholder, and a user-friendly rotary dial for radio tuning and volume control. Unique additions comprise a fingerprint access system, heated armrests, and even an ambient fragrance system. Rear passengers aren't left behind, with a 14.6-inch screen and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system at their disposal.

Safety remains paramount. Both the SUV and Coupé come equipped with electronic stability control, a crosswind stabilizer, and an AI-enhanced terrain scanner. Further features include lane assist, blindspot alerts, adaptive cruise control, and remote smart parking tech.

As anticipation builds around the pricing of these new releases, industry insiders point to the £56,000 benchmark set by the GV80 in its 2021 UK launch. The Coupé, with its high-end hybrid engine, is predicted to command a slightly heftier price tag.
