Launching as a more economical alternative to the iX1 range, this new addition is available for orders, with deliveries commencing in November 2023. With a starting price of £44,560 for the Sport variant, it offers a budget-friendly option compared to the iX1 xDrive30 priced from £53,295.

While the iX1 debuted in 2022, it echoes the design of its combustion-engine counterpart, the BMW X1 compact SUV, which now also embraces more hybrid technologies. The distinction between them in aesthetics is subtle, with both embracing a consistent design philosophy. The BMW iX1's dimensions remain the same however.

Technical specifics highlight that both iX1 models share a 64.7kWh battery. However, the eDrive20 features a single-motor setup on the front axle, producing 204bhp and 247Nm of torque, contrasting the dual-motor, 308bhp, and 494Nm torque of the xDrive30. This power differential results in an 8.6-second 0-62mph acceleration for the eDrive20, while the xDrive30 completes it in 5.7 seconds.

In terms of range, the xDrive20 promises up to 296 miles, though some trims might offer around 268 miles. The xDrive30, on the other hand, offers up to 272 miles per WLTP testing. Both versions share similar charging rates, with 130kW fast-charging capabilities ensuring a 10 to 80% charge in just 29 minutes. A noteworthy feature is the battery's pre-heating function, optimizing the vehicle for peak charging at public stations.

Standard AC charging offers a full recharge in 6.5 hours, with an optional upgrade cutting this down to approximately 3.75 hours. Notably, the more affordable xDrive20 doesn't compromise on tech, retaining the curved infotainment display found in the xDrive30 and featuring BMW's state-of-the-art OS9 operating system.
